How To Boot From Usb Dell Inspiron

I have been trying to enable the legacy boot options on an Inspiron 20 model 3043. I get everything disabled (Secure boot) but it will NOT allow me to choose the Boot List Option to change it from UEFI to Legacy.

That menu option in the BIOS is greyed out. It just jumps right passed it as if it doesn't exist.I want to boot to disc. Why is this so hard?! I can't get it to allow for any boot options other than booting to the original OS. I even tried flashing the BIOS to a newer version thinking there was something wrong with it. No dice.Apparently it is live with Windows 8 or die trying to load something else.Am I missing something that needs checked, unchecked, disabled, enabled, whatever?

Or is this just MS and Dell's way of saying too bad if you want to do anything else? I can't even boot to rescue media. There has got to be a better way. One simply does not enter legacy bios options.Windows 8 - the one OS to rule them all. EGulentz,Thank you for the post and feedback. I'm pushing this question up the ladder and will be back in touch. Maybe we can add a boot option the manual way once I know more.

I'll have to find the names to enter, in the event we can get legacy option roms enabled ( maybe with a BIOS update ). Example found below:I've highlighted in the Inspiron 'Add a boot option' in the 2nd screen shot below. I've added a Latitude BIOS so others can see the differences between Latitude BIOS and Inspiron BIOS.Latitude BIOS:Inspiron. Thanks Justin.

I had tried the add a boot option but it didn't see to work in the manner I expected. But the KB you left was different than the one I had come across. I'll give that a try and see if it works any better.

The steps were about the same but slightly off from the one you have here.Such an odd thing to come across when trying to boot to a disc. It's become so second nature to us that when it's moved or changed we sit there and scratch our heads a bit. Eventually we recover and move on to the new improved way.

But in the meantime, I really just want this to work the old way.Looking forward to your findings. And I'll give the 'add boot option' option another go. It's always possible in my frustration and annoyance I missed a step. Needhelp wrote:Should say I am not an IT person; just an ordinary user. When is it advisable to update the computer Bios?

How

Mine is a Dell AIO Inpspiron 2350 64 bit with Win 8.1. I've got it just 1 yr ago and the Bios is A05.I too cannot select the 'Load Legacy OPROM' or the 'Boot Mode' options. Real ice age animals list.

The selection key (arrow key) just skipped over them as if they are not there.I can select 'Secure Boot Control' though. I dare say the boot options/names are different for each type of Dell system? For general home computer usage, you shouldn't ever.have.

to update your BIOS, unless:New Hardware: if you choose to upgrade the CPU to a much newer one, you may need to update to add support for it.Intermittent boot errors: if the computer is failing to boot (before the OS even begins to load) often, it may be worth researching the latest BIOS updates to see if it's a known issue with a fix.
